Who is Dabung Girl?

She is witty, she is fearless, she is Dabung Girl! Meet your new friend, a Superhero, who inspires girls to find the hero within, and boys to perceive the superhero in girls around them. However, unlike other superheroes, who come and save the day, Dabung Girl encourages children to find the solutions!

Her alter-ego, Tara, is a bright and inquisitive school-goer. Tara is passionate about her hometown, Tadkapur, its people, and the environment in general. Whenever the children of Tadkapur face any danger, Tara turns up as Dabung Girl and guides them!

Why a superhero? Research shows that superheroes give wings to the imagination and confidence of children. Children feel more empowered when they hear stories of superheroes.

Why Dabung Girl? – Dabung girl represents a strong and dynamic female lead character to expand the mental horizons of young girls (and everyone) who are quite habituated to admire the mostly male superheroes. Sub-consciously this puts young girls at a disadvantage. Dabung Girl Stories are an effort to inspire young girls to be fearless and aim for success, realising their own internal superhero.

Who are we? We are a team of life skills educators and experience designers. Our team has been conducting life skills workshops with children over the last few years across multiple states in India. During these workshops, we continuously realized a need for children to have a personal safe space to read and reflect. However, the market is dominated by male superheroes.

How is Dabung Girl different? Unlike other superheroes, who come and save the day, she helps children understand the problem and find solutions. This initiative is an effort to enhance the child’s self-efficacy and increase their awareness about social issues.

What now? Given the encouragement from the comic books, we are now working on more stories on social themes to create both comic book and animation videos.
